The school’s Music Department were once again honoured to host and organise the annual Rotary Club of Bedworth’s “Young Musician of the Year” competition on Wednesday 21 March in the school hall. This event is very kindly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bedworth, who provide a trophy for the winner of both the Junior and Senior Sections, and cash prizes for the winner and runner up in each section.
This year, there were five entries in the Junior section (for Year 9 students and below), and nine entries in a keenly contested Senior Section. The prize winners were as follows:
Junior Young Musician of the Year: Charlie Taylor (Year 8) – Voice.
Runner up: Peter Hillary (Year 9) – Electric Guitar
Senior Young Musician of the Year: Isobel Bennett (ex student) – Voice and Ukulele
Runner up: Lorna Craner (Year 10) – Voice
Congratulations to all the performers, who all played to a high standard, thus making the awarding decisions very difficult for out adjudicator, Garry Sleath (recently retired Head of Music form John Cleveland College, Hinckley).
The evening was run with the support of the Year 9 GCSE Music group as part of their Arts Award qualification.
